How to choose the Visual Fault Locator?
Visual Fault Locator is widely used in the fiber optic network for the short distance fault check, and the fiber checking. VFL of the wavelength of 635nm, 650nm or 660nm is popular in the market currently, and the most popular wavelength of VFL is 650nm.
There are two kind of output for the visual laser source, one is output through focusing lens, and facula of this kind of visual laser source is a kind of rectangle shape or brighter light point. The other kind of the output is through the fiber, the facula is round, like the shape of the fiber end-face. The difference of those two kind of visual laser source is that: the quality of the visual laser source in to the fiber is depend the matching of the connected patch cord with the focusing lens, through the visual laser source via focusing lens output is stronger. However the visual laser source output via fiber connected with the connector will make the output power transmitted more efficiency. Therefore the same output power of the visual fault locator, the type of output via the fiber will be longer distance and more effective than output via focusing lens. And this is also the type that STCOMM VFL used.
On the other hand, due to the strength of the output power is also depend on the battery capacity, normally, when the battery capacity is not enough which will make the output power lower than standard, and this is kind of situation cannot be identified visually, thus make the faulty of the judgments in the network. STCOOM VFL have the inner chip which realized the low battery indication function, so that when the battery capacity is not enough the LED light turns to red to indicate the user and let them know that before the light turned red the output power of the VFL is the standard.
